THE POWER OF LOVE

As the seasonal wheel turns, the northern hemisphere in which I live welcomes longer days, warmer temps, shoots and blooms that anoint the earth. This month of May celebrates Mother Earth, and the love, strength, and dedication of all Mothers everywhere. In this time of fractured families on the rise, let us cast the Light of love on All Mothers remembering that everyday is Mother’s Day.

The origins of celebrating motherhood traces back to festivals honoring Mother Goddesses in ancient Greece and Rome. The history of Mother’s Day as we know it originated in West Virginia. In the late 19th century, abolitionist and suffragist, Julia Ward Howe, wrote the “Mother’s Day Proclamation” that called for mothers to unite and promote world peace. In 1908, social activist Anna Jarvis, made it her life mission to give mothers the recognition they deserve. Her inspiration spread rapidly. After WWI, the popularity of Jarvis’ vision became commercialized by florists, retailers, and greeting card companies. Watching the humble beginnings of Mother’s Day get lost to consumerism was very hard for Anne. Near the end of her life she tried desperately to abolish the holiday, with no luck. In 1914, Mother’s Day became an official holiday, and is now well-recognized globally.

As I feel into the original intent envisioned by Anna Jarvis to value and uphold Mothers and the Vision of Peace, my heart breathes into the full circle of life that weaves the past-present-future continuum.

Mothering is sacred ground. My mother’s spirit is inside of me, her mother’s spirit is inside of her, and on and on and on it goes … Every mother born under the sun carries the threads of generational trauma and evolutionary potential. Our work as mothers is the same era after era. Love is why we came. Love is why we are here. It is the optimum dream of every lifetime.

As the world turns, nothing seems as important anymore than love prevailing on earth. Visions are powerful, so let’s envision every mother being genuinely touched with waves of deep appreciation, gratitude, and support. Together let us honor the Mother archetype, and the fulfillment of her essential sacred path.

This wise protector elder spirit being hangs from my tree canopy bed. She has been brought to life through my clay hands carrying the following message for all women aligned with unconditional love.

“Now, more than ever, be consumed with shaping the future. Follow no one, except for your innermost spirit impulse.”

Sit with Mother Gaia
for nurturting strength
you are not alone
your primordial heartbeat
is threaded into her lap

You are valuable and essential
to the sacred design
honor the sacred pull
of the inner call
to calm the mind
and clear the head

Commune with the land
that holds you up, and
recommit to living
the fullness of
your authentic nature.

This is the season for claiming the work we came to do, sowing change, beginning again, rebuilding life. The seeds we carry are the ancestors dreams.

Until next time,

Be filled with the Strength of Spirit
and know that you are deeply held in
the Power of Love
